Vanessa decided to start her Spring Break early by getting a huge goose egg on her forehead. She was jumping on a little mini exercising tramp in our backyard. She was trying to jump off onto our cement patio when her foot caught the edge of the tramp. She dove straight onto the patio. I saw the whole thing happen and was sure that she cracked her head open. I ran to her and saw the enormous bump on her head. I grabbed her and went inside to go call the doctor. Through her tears, she asked Dad give her a blessing. What a sweet girl she is.
We went to Instacare to get it checked out but it had an hour and half wait time. She was complaining of wanting to go to sleep and nausea. I knew I couldn’t let her sleep if she had a concussion but I needed her checked out quickly. While sitting in the waiting room, I had a thought come to me to call Dr. Bowman (one of the eye doctors that I work for). I quickly found his number and called. He answered and said that he was just coming out of the temple and would be able to meet me at the office in 20 minutes. What a tender mercy! If I would have gotten the prompting sooner, I wouldn’t have gotten a hold of him and we would have been sitting at Instacare for who knows how long.
Dr. Bowman ended up doing a dilated exam to check for a concussion and her optic nerves. He said that the hematoma was pretty big and that it would take some time to heal completely. After the exam, he gave us some great news. No concussion and no injury to the eyes. We were to wake her up every 3 hours to make sure she was still aware of her surroundings and coherent. We left the office and went home and put her to bed. She was pretty tired and quickly fell asleep. It was a long night waking her up every 3 hours but she seemed to be aware of things which was a huge relief. Watching my kids get hurt is such a hard thing. I just want to make sure they are safe and protected all the time but I know that can’t happen. I am so thankful for the priesthood. I know that was the reason why she has healed so quickly and not have any other injury besides the bump. We are so glad that she is OK and back to her happy self.
