Yep! There is no sittin’ around here at the Sorensen house. We are diving right into overhauling our kitchen! Let me be honest when I say that I truly disliked my kitchen! That was the one thing that really bothered me about this house when we bought it.
Here is why:
1: Absolutely NO drawer storage space. We have one measly 8 in drawer for the whole kitchen!!! Who does that?
2: The opening between the counters is very small! We can’t have more than one adult in the space without feeling cramped. We can’t have the dishwasher and the oven open at the same time either! It would be nice to have Mark unloading the dishwasher while I’m preparing dinner.
3: The laminate counter tops are very stained and the color is not to my liking!
4: The floors are just horrendous! The white color shows dirt like crazy! Our floor always looks dirty even after I scrub it.
5: Both Mark and I are not a fan of the Blonde Oak cabinets. They look dated and much too orange.
6: There is no space to put a garbage. We have it tucked under the bar which makes it a challenge when preparing dinner and Sariah is always tipping it over.
Those are just a few of the things that are making us what to change and update it!!!!
So the past weekend, we went to Lowe’s and ordered our counter tops and picked up additional supplies. We chose to go with the Quartz tops. It’s actually a much higher quality product than Granite and it came out cheaper than it as well and even included a free stainless steel under mount DEEP sink!!! The tops would be ready in two weeks so we got to work on moving and painting the cabinets. We spent the Saturday carefully prying loose the existing cabinets and adding two new additional ones. We added a set of 3 drawers and a 15 inch cabinet/drawer set. We decided to push out the bar 18 inches and put in the 15 inch combo for a pull out garbage. It was sure a process to move and place the cabinets. It took us all day to get them done. But once we got them installed we were happy with the outcome. It opened up the space so much that we can now have the oven and dishwasher open at the same time and all the family can be in that space without feeling cramped!!! It also allows me to actually reach the cup cabinet!!!! That’s an added bonus!!!
